Local Area

Local Area - El Boura - Marrakech, Morocco

Serving as the capital of southern Morocco, the city of Marrakech is one of the country's most visited and this colourful oasis retains a rather exotic flavour, with some 16 km / 10 miles of mid-brick ramparts still standing adding an undeniable feeling of the past. Marrakech is now something of a tourism Mecca and is home to the south's premier souq (market).

Founded almost 1,000 years ago, the character of Marrakech remains quite unchanged, being hot, full of energy and somewhat African. However, the city of today has been greatly influenced by arriving Europeans and features outdoor swimming pools, mountain parties, and street cafes, as well as Moroccan palaces, mosques and kasbahs, spread around the Medina and its centre Djemaa El Fna square.

Climate

Climate - El Boura - Marrakech, Morocco

Marrakech weather is consistently sunny, with the average sunshine hours rarely dropping below 7 hours a day, with a steady 10 hours of sunshine a day during the summer months. The city has very warm summers while the Atlas Mountains are capped in snow for much of the year. The summers can be scorching while winters are bright and crisp, with spring seeing the Mountains covered in flowers.

The weather in Marrakech is tourist-friendly all year round. It is normally pleasantly warm to hot (around 30°C) during the day. The temperature does drop somewhat at night, to around 15°C.

Things To Do

Things To Do - El Boura - Marrakech, Morocco

Marrakech certainly lives up to its reputation of being a colourful and exotic city, with an astonishing array of quality goods in the little shops of the souks, snake-charmers and story tellers in the main square, and visiting tribesmen from the desert with their camels; but it is also a glamorous city, with good restaurants, food and wine influenced by the French, and fine golf courses designed to meet the demanding standards of the late King.

Souks. Obviously the best place to go to have a true Moroccan shopping experience. Haggle as much as you can to get the best price. A guide can be organised to take you to the most interesting shops.

Golf Courses. First introduced into Morocco at the beginning of the 20th century, Golf has since become a national passion in Morocco.

Sand & Sea Surfing. Surfing in Morocco can take many forms. The Atlantic Coast, just two hours drive from Bab Adar d'Atlas, offers challenging surf, whilst the undulating Sahara dunes, three hours south of Bab Adrar, present a unique surfing experience. Water skiing and boarding can be enjoyed on several nearby lakes, and the mountain snows provide ample opportunity to enjoy some winter downhill excitement.

Fishing. If fishing is your passion, Morocco can offer rewarding results from both fresh and salt waters. The pure mountain air, the warm, Moroccan sun and the stunning panoramas make this one of the most memorable fishing venues in the world. Within a short drive from Bab Adrar d'Atlas, there are several deep mountain lakes, yielding black bass, barbell, perch and trout. Half-days, day trips and over-night bivouac excursions can be arranged with fishing in mind.

Motorsports/Quad Biking. For the motor enthusiast Morocco has some stunning opportunities for quad and four-by-four driving. Whether precarious mountain tracks are your preference, or a 4x4 across the desert dunes, there are thousands of routes that can give enthusiasts a memorable challenge.

Tennis. In Guéliz, the new town area of Marrakech city, there is the historic Royal Tennis Club, boasting nine clay courts of the highest standard.

Parks and Gardens. There are several lush public and private gardens surrounding the busier areas and you won’t have to look far to find one. A good one to try is the privately owned Majorelle Garden and Museum of Islamic Art, which was created in the 1920s by French artists Jacques and Louis Majorelle. The immaculately groomed gardens are dazzling with their cool pools, giant cacti, as well as coconut, bamboo and banana trees.

Horse Riding. Exploring Morocco on horseback lets you to experience the detail of its fascinating countryside and culture in leisurely comfort. Letting the mule take the strain is a very popular way of exploring the Atlas Mountains, particularly in areas where a wheeled vehicle can go no further.

Walking and Trekking. Morocco is blessed with spectacular Mountain ranges, The High, Middle and Low Atlas, Jebel Sarhro and the Rif Mountains. The Ourika Valley is the doorway into the High Atlas Mountains, whose foothills start just seven kilometres away. Seeing this magnificent landscape on foot is one of the best ways to appreciate its scale and beauty. The wildlife is fascinating - just remember to take your camera.

Skiing In Morocco. Ouikeimden is North Africa's largest ski resort and has the continent's highest lift. Meaning valley of four winds, it is set to become the ultimate four season mountain destination for recreation, entertainment, relaxation and residence as well as becoming the Middle East and Africa's only golf and ski resort Ouikeimden caters for downhill and cross-country skiers as well as snowboarders.

Oasiria Water Park. Marrakech. For an aquatic adventure in Marrakech why not try Oasiria. This relatively new water park opened its doors a few summers ago and has been a favourite hang out ever since. Oasiria is extremely easy to get to as the park provides its own bus shuttle service to and from town.

  1. “"I have to say this was one of the best holidays we have had in the villas. Abdu’l-Latif is a wonderful manager; helpful, efficient, even-tempered and yet discreet. Everyone loved him and the staff were all very competent under his charge. There was absolutely no sense of danger anywhere we visited in Marrakech, which was initially a concern of some of our guests, and we visited some truly outstanding places. I did not take many photos, unfortunately, but others did and I hope some will be shared with you. One truly outstanding placewe visited was the Kasbah du Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains, the final leg of which was achieved on mules! The healthy lunch and spectacular scenery was well worth the effort. Also the Royal Mansour Hotel in Marrakech which we visited on the first day, and repeated on the last day, was voted as one of the most incredible feats of craftsmanship and design anyone had ever seen, and we had an architect and several interior designers on our trip! It was commissioned by the king and it seems that no expense was spared in its creation. The pastries were also the best we had ever tasted!" C. N. commented on 17-Mar-2016 12:19 PM
  2. “"Marrakech is an awesome experience and El Boura is an awesome house." W. G. commented on 02-Oct-2015 10:21 AM
  3. “"We LOVED El Boura - we had the most perfect week. AB and the staff were fantastic, they were so friendly, helpful and would have done anything we asked. They prepared the most wonderful food, beautiful to look at and all delicious, the children loved it too. The villa is fantastic and spacious, we loved the pool and all the facilities and we all felt very comfortable and at home. We did two outings with all children in tow - the souk is very manageable with a 3 year old, as is a mountainous hike up to a waterfall in the Atlas Mountains! AB also arranged golf and massages, and they also did a wonderful birthday party for our friends' daughter. El Boura sets the gold standard for villa management and catering. Thank you so much for your help on this." V. R. commented on 25-Sep-2015 03:03 PM
  4. “"Just wanted to thank you very much for all your help and support with the booking and arrangements for our holiday in June. We could not have done it with such ease if your assistance was not given. We had the best time ever, a holiday that we will never forget. The service in Marrakech from arrival at the airport to our return was exceptional, we were treated so very well, the service was first class. All 16 of us were overwhelmed by how beautiful the villa was and the great staff who assisted us. AB is an asset to your team he was outstanding and made sure we wanted for nothing. Again thank you, and we shall definitely be using Rocksure again." J. J. commented on 30-Jun-2015 09:48 AM

  7. “Yes we had a great time in Marrakech! The golf was great, the weather fantastic and as always the hospitality from AB and Sabah was outstanding, especially the food. Highly recommend a trip to the Hammam Alhambra and massage in the villa arranged by AB. The golf courses are well laid out, but a couple are a bit tired. However, they are building loads right now that will make Marrakech a highly desirable golf location in the winter months... Thanks again to all the staff at El Boura." C.S. commented on 03-Dec-2013 12:08 PM
  8. “We all had an amazing time and AB and his team were brilliant. The property looked amazing. It was a truly magical week. As ever AB provided faultless service and we are truly grateful. He is an absolute asset to Rocksure. We can’t wait to go back. " S.W. commented on 26-Nov-2013 10:56 AM
  9. “Just wanted to drop you a quick email. We had a fantastic time last week at the Villa, everyone was so disappointed to leave on Saturday and overall I think everyone agreed it was their best holiday ever. AB and his team were brilliant and made everything so easy. A huge thank for making it such a great experience, and all the organisation you did for us before we went. Best wishes " M.F. commented on 19-Nov-2013 10:58 AM
  10. “Thank you very much for all your help in preparation. We arrived to a well-stocked kitchen and with a good understanding of how to play things. AB and his team were terrific. Tamadot was a particular highlight – thank you again for helping arrange that – and we saw a lot of Marrakech (the Jamaa el Fna and souks, a good tour of the city, caleche and camel rides etc), and AB helped my parents sort out a Riad for the final day when they had a late flight back. All-in-all the property was a delight and all the aspects of the holiday were great. Thank you again for your help, " N.S. commented on 05-Nov-2013 12:18 PM

The food was delicious, and the housekeepers were always on hand, or just a phone call away if we needed anything or had any problems. They were happy to organise activities and excursions which made our stay relaxed and very enjoyable. Thanks again and best regards," L.S. commented on 30-Aug-2013 03:46 PM
  13. “We had a great time and really enjoyed ourselves in the fabulous building. We loved the building and thought AB was doing a great job and is a tremendously likeable individual. We are thinking of taking a bunch of friends this time next year! I do hope this helps. Kindest" J.Q.  commented on 22-May-2013 04:05 PM
  14. “Everything was fine and we all enjoyed ourselves at El Boura. The kitchen was kept clean and tidy at all times and the villa was noticeably cleaned everyday. Outside the grounds are very well kept, there are now 10 pool loungers and the place looks in great shape. The new cook is very good and prepared some excellent meals including a wonderful turkey on Christmas day! AB and his new team did an excellent job and went the extra mile in making our Christmas that bit special. Please pass on our thanks. The highlight of our holiday - AB organised a taxi to take us to Kasbah Tamadot, Richard Branson's retreat in the Atlas where we had an excellent lunch surrounded by some of the most stunning scenery. A simply amazing place. We will return for more. Thanks and best regards, " E.D.  commented on 03-Jan-2013 01:38 PM
